How to trim eyebrows with eyebrow scissors
Eyebrow scissors are the essential tool for creating a refined eyebrow shape. Many beginners end up with messy eyebrows or “over-trimming” due to improper use. Below, we share the correct way to use eyebrow scissors, based on 10 years of beauty experience. The steps are clear and easy to follow, making it simple for beginners to master quickly.
Step 1: Use an eyebrow comb to tidy up the eyebrows and determine the direction of trimming
Before trimming, it is crucial to “follow the hair flow.” Take the eyebrow comb and gently comb the eyebrows from the roots to the tails 2-3 times, ensuring all hairs lie in their natural growth direction. Focus on combing the areas around the eyebrow arch and tails, which are prone to tangling, to clearly distinguish between “longer hairs” and “main hairs,” preventing confusion during trimming.
Step 2: Define the desired eyebrow shape to avoid blind trimming
Determine the eyebrow shape based on face shape (e.g., round faces suit eyebrows with a brow peak, while square faces suit soft, rounded eyebrows). Use a light-colored eyebrow pencil to lightly outline the upper edge, brow peak, and tail of the eyebrows. Subsequently, only trim hairs longer than the outline. Additionally, use the width of the eyebrow comb as a reference to determine a trimming length that does not exceed the width of the eyebrow bone, preventing the eyebrows from being trimmed too short.
Step 3: Press the eyebrow comb tightly against the eyebrows and precisely trim excessively long hairs

This is the core step. Position the eyebrow comb along the upper edge of the eyebrows (from the eyebrow root to the tail), ensuring the comb teeth are aligned with the direction of hair growth (approximately 45°). Observe the hairs protruding beyond the comb teeth, then use the blade of the eyebrow scissors to trim along the edge of the comb teeth, starting from the eyebrow root toward the tail. Stop and check after trimming every 1-2 centimeters to avoid cutting too much at once.
Step 4: Use an eyebrow razor to remove stray hairs and refine the eyebrow shape
After trimming the main hairs, use a blunt-tipped eyebrow razor to remove any remaining stray hairs (such as fine hairs along the upper edge of the eyebrow or short hairs below the eyebrow arch). Gently lift the skin above the eyebrow, then scrape upward along the hair texture. Apply pressure that does not cause redness, and after scraping, use toner to soothe the skin.
Key precautions (avoid “bald spots”)
When using eyebrow scissors, the blade must face the inner side of the eyebrow (closer to the bridge of the nose), and you must cut from top to bottom. Never cut horizontally, as this can lead to over-trimming and bald spots. Beginners are advised to “trim a little at a time,” cutting only hairs that extend 1 mm beyond the eyebrow comb to ensure a natural, seamless shape.
